Dr. Shannon Tovey is passionate about sharing her expertise in story architecture and audience engagement via one-on-one coaching and small group workshops that help clients reach their specific goals.

In addition to teaching and consulting, Shannon is a popular writer covering Atlanta’s music scene. She has had the privilege of interviewing people across the music industry such as Rick Beato, Amy Ray, Rickie McKinney, Eddie 9-Volt, Kennedy Ryon, Tinsley Ellis, Milton Suggs, Michelle Malone, Kat Taylor, and many more while applying a unique storytelling lens to music journalism. Beginning with a blog to promote local bands (LaylaPromotions.squarespace.com), she now writes for ArtsATL, the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Creative Loafing, Big City Music and Blues, Layla Promotions, RAMmagazine, Music Careers, Decatur Living, Atlanta Magazine, and more.

Dr. Tovey holds a Ph.D. in Language and Literacy Education, an M.Ed. in Education, and a B.S.B.A. in Accounting. She has also completed advanced study in story theory, music psychology, reading comprehension, creative writing, and instructional design. She has been invited to speak at three international conferences on the topic of story and has published numerous academic articles on the intersection of story and reading engagement.
